Realized Price

The average price at which all currently existing Bitcoin last changed hands on-chain — essentially the aggregate cost basis of all Bitcoin holders.

Realized price is calculated by taking the realized cap (the sum of the value of every UTXO at the price it last moved) and dividing by the total Bitcoin supply. Rather than using the current spot price for all coins, it uses the actual last-transacted price for each coin. This produces a figure representing what the average holder actually paid for their Bitcoin, not what it is currently worth.

Realized price serves as a crucial on-chain support level. When Bitcoin's spot price falls to the realized price, the average holder is at breakeven — neither in profit nor at a loss. Historically, Bitcoin has rarely spent extended time below its realized price, and periods where spot price falls below realized price have been near bear market bottoms when the most risk-averse holders have already capitulated.

Different cohorts of holders have their own realized prices. Long-term holder realized price represents the average cost basis of long-duration holders (typically far below spot in bull markets); short-term holder realized price represents recent buyers. When spot price falls below the short-term holder realized price (they're in the red on average), it signals potential panic selling. When spot reclaims this level, it often acts as bullish confirmation.
